Adapted Yoga

PCAS Yoga Session 1 - 05.jpg

The PCAS Yoga program was started in March 2016, and is led by Mamie Guidera, Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, and longtime member of our PCAS rowing program.

Guided by experienced practitioners and set in a beautiful space along the Schuylkill River, yoga is an opportunity to quiet the mind while stretching and strengthening the body. Both chair and stand-up yoga practiced.

Each yoga session is adapted to meet the needs of its participants.

The class is guided through a series of yoga poses, with personal coaching available on how to adapt traditional positions to meet your abilities. Thus, class members ultimately create their own adaptations for each yoga pose based on their unique abilities, not by strict adherence to a classic pose.

Volunteers are on hand to assist and participate themselves. Participants work largely on a mat, whether sitting, standing, kneeling or whatever their capacity.  Straps are available to use as an aid in achieving a pose.
